Review: Qumran brings kosher dining to life

Tel Aviv’s restaurant scene is known for its vibrant and lively establishments, where dining transforms into an unforgettable party. However, one might not expect to find a kosher restaurant that embodies this atmosphere. That’s where Qumran (קומראן) comes in.

From the moment you step inside Qumran, you’ll be captivated by its spectacular decor and opulence. Make sure not to miss the stunning chandelier in the private room—it’s a sight to behold. True to its name, Qumran aims to transport you into a cave-like ambiance, creating a unique dining experience.

The menu was small enough to know that they will put love into each dish, but large enough to keep everyone happy. It’s definitely worth going in a group to share the dishes to get to try it all! There are lots of raw dishes, which is the chef’s main focus, but actually one of our favorite dishes was the tortellini!

But you don’t book a table at Qumran just for the food. You book it for the show. And make sure to get a table on the later side so you’re there for 10 pm because that’s when the real fun starts. The lights start to dim. The DJ kicks it up a notch. And then all of a sudden, out came the belly dancers! First, there was one playing with fire – if you want to see the close up get a table on the bar. Then later, she pulled out a rope of scarves, and went around the tables getting all the guests involved in the fun!

Needless to say, we’ve never had this kind of experience in a restaurant, let alone a kosher one. But it’s great to see that kosher restaurants are catching up in style and vibe to the rest.

In terms of cost per person, you should know that there’s a minimum spend of 250 shekel a person, (300 on Thursday), which won’t be hard to hit. And don’t worry, the portions aren’t small, so you definitely won’t be going home hungry!

If you’re looking for something more than your typical kosher restaurant experience, it’s an absolute must. It was everything we love in a fine dining experience – delicious food, an awesome vibe, and great service.

(By the way, Qumran is usually booked up for months in advance so we recommend making a reservation)
